Counselling could be described as “an activity, which aims to help others in any or all aspects of their being within a caring relationship” or an “activity which seeks to help people towards constructive change and growth in any or every aspect of their lives”.

At some phase in our lives we may experience distressing events and feelings, which seem to have no end or solution in sight. Sometimes we have an understanding that our feelings are due to particular circumstances such as marital discord, relationship problems, bereavement or loss of employment, but at other times we may have no idea what is making us feel the way we do; all we know is that our lives have become uncomfortable, difficult and/or even unbearable.

The anxiety felt due to the problems can be so great that certain decisions are made hastily and blindly to the individual’s detriment.  Counselling can help people to explore and clarify their thoughts and feelings so they can arrive at their own decisions or even help make major changes in their lives.

Counselling includes but not limited to:

  • Listening
  • Giving permission to talk
  • Giving people support
  • Confidentiality
  • Patience
  • Helping people see and explore new ways
  • Helping people come to terms with a situation
  • Building confidence

Online therapy is the provision of all the above but via the Internet or on the Telephone.

Once you decide you would like support. We suggest you speak with one of our intake coordinators at you would speak with our client coordinators at 1-877-335-7496 or book a 15 minutes free consultation.

You will be asked some questions to get a deeper understanding of your needs. Then you will be sent an intake form to complete which will be used to match you with a therapist that is trained in the issues you would like to explore in therapy. Once intake is received, you will be assigned a therapist and an appointment is made.

Online sessions will be through the means of telephone or video chatting on a secured platform.

Therapy is a personal thing and we always do our best to try and match you with a therapist who is skilled in the reasons that brought you to counselling. We appreciate that sometimes for one reason or other the connection does not work.

If that happens, please give us a call. We can review your needs and look at other therapists that may be a better fit.

Yes, it is effective as well as convenient. It is important to note however, that the effectiveness can be dependent on a few aspects such as:

  • The client being comfortable to using online platforms (our therapists do a great job in ensuring clients are ready for this option)
  • Based on assessment if this will be the best option for the client in question
  • The client’s environment/privacy and quality of internet connection.  Consistent internet outages, long buffering times or technical issues can interrupt the therapeutic process and impact effectiveness.

We encourage clients to help diminish some of these issues by ensuring that they have good internet access, decrease distractions that may interfere such as little children in the background, pets, loud music etc.  and committing to scheduled appointments.

Each person’s needs are different. After the initial three sessions, the therapist can guide you through the therapeutic plan and suggest the number of sessions you might need.

Currently, OHIP does not cover Psychotherapy. 

 

Clients with extended health benefits may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement of service fees, depending on their insurance provider. We accept insurance reimbursement as Psychotherapists, Social Workers or Counsellors. Check with your extended health benefit if you are covered.

We are compliant with Ontario’s Privacy Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Whether in person or online, we adhere to all privacy policies and secure your information on PHIPA & PIPEDA approved electronic software.

The costs could range from $100 to $250 depending on the issue, therapist and the type of intervention.

You can make payment either prior of after your session. Cash, e-transfer or credit card are acceptable forms of payment. 

 

Upon payment we issue a receipt either for Psychotherapy or Social Work registration depending on your coverage so you can use it to claim back.
